Waterlogging hits train services

Movement of trains between Howrah and the Chakradharpur section of South Eastern Railway was affected due to waterlogging on the railway tracks at Howrah and its adjoining stations. The Howrah Digha-Howrah Tamralipta  Express was cancelled on Thursday. While Titlagarh to Howrah Ispat Superfast Express left from Santragachi instead of Howrah.

The Howrah-Barbil Janshatabdi Express ( both the Up and Dn trains), Howrah-Titlagarh Ispat Express and Chakradharpur-Adra-Howrah Passenger were cancelled as incessant rains during the last couple of days leading to waterlogging on railway tracks at Howrah.

The Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Superfast Express was running five hours late. Against its schedule arrival time of 6.35 am, the train reached Tatanagar at around 11.30 am.

Railway officials at Garden Reach, headquarters of South Eastern Railway (SER) said that the Howrah Tatanagar Steel Superfast Express left from Santragachi at 6 pm instead of 5.30 pm from Howrah. The Up train from Tatanagar was also short terminated at Santragachi this morning. The train also delayed by over one hour.

Railway authorities said several areas in Bengal were under water, all trains coming from Mumbai and Pune had to be diverted and were running several hours late.

All important trains on the up line are running several hours behind schedule as they are stranded at different junctions, on the Howrah-Mumbai line, while the trains scheduled to leave on the down line via Tatanagar are either running on diverted route or have been terminated midway.
