There seems to be no end to the problems of denizens of the Pratappur village under Garhwa police station.
The people here are forced to drink water containing fluoride. To put an end to this problem, the PHED has started construction of a water tank, the completion of which cannot be expected before four years.
Regarding construction of the water tank, the PHED, Garhwa ignored the order of the then Jharkhand Chief Secretary Ashok Kumar Singh. About five hundred people of the Pratappur village are facing hardships for the want of safe drinking water. To solve the problem PHED Garhwa had installed fluoride filters about two years back.
But now the filters are out of order for want of filter parts. PHED, Garhwa had started construction of the water tank in Pratappur village during the financial year 2006-07 on a contractual basis. The tank was to be handed over by April 5, 2008, but it is still in the construction phase. The executive engineer of PHED was not available for comments.
