Huge quantity of water from Tenughat Dam was released as the water level increased in the reservoir on Monday. Out of 10, one gate of the dam has been opened and water was released from the dam, informed the nodal officer of flood Control Unit of Tenughat Dam.

The District Administration issued a warning, not to go into the river as water level increased into the Tenughat dam as well as in river too. It might be expected of a sudden release of more water from the reservoir of the dam at any time, warning reveals. Heavy downpour increased the water level into Tenughat Dam and Damodar River. The Damodar was on its peak, officials said.  The officials, who are monitoring the rise in the river’s water level, said the threat of a flood persists. But the possibility of a major flood in the district was low, they added.

“The capacity of the reservoir of Tenughat Dam is to hold the water level at a maximum of 824 feet but now the water level is increased, rushed to 852.80 feet,” added the official.

A special directive of ‘24-hours alert’ has been issued to the concerned officials, staffs and divers, informed the official.
