Water harvesting structure a lifeline for forces at Dagra post

A helipad and water harvesting structure at a security post in Palamu - This security post Dagra, is a mix of modernism and conservatism. If it has a helipad as now Government of Jharkhand has made it mandatory to have a helipad at remote area located forward security post, Dagra post has a water harvesting structure which in ancient time was used to confine rain waters from getting lost.

SP Palamu indrajeet Mahatha said the helipad was built by public works department while the water harvesting structure has been readied by the cops of the post. This water harvesting structure has come free and retains 5 feet high water in it which is 30 feet wide and 80 feet long.

DSP Shambhu K Singh shedding more light on this water harvesting structure said here our deep boring failed twice and the scarcity of water was just staring at the faces of the cops here who discovered a source of downstream of river Sat Hi and began to impound its water. This water harvesting structure has an excellent catchment area from where the rush of water in rainy season is in abundance and even in summer water trickles down satisfactorily added Singh.

Singh said there has come up 4 barracks, one officer’s lodge and six morchas two of them elevated ones and four on the ground and all are pucca construction and thus the cops had a good number of cement bags used in the construction of these structures here and these bags on their empty were utilized as sand bags and these sand bags dam the water of the all season river Sat HI Singh said there may be around 3000 to 3,500 bags of sand here which wall the water.

SP Mahatha giving all credits to state DGP D K Pandey said this water saving mechanism here at Dagra owes to the inspiration and motivational talk of our DGP who during his two visits at Dagra prevailed upon the cops to save water by all means and the cops taking a cue from DGP succeeded in walling the water which used to run off.

Quoting DGP Palamu SP Mahatha said, “it was the dream of DGP to find water being harvested here and now Dagra post can showcase it for other posts to go for the same if those posts have tremendous catchment area and perennial stream of water.”

Efforts are on to reach this water to the fields of the farmers with the help of pipe and pumping set under central special assistance scheme launched in lWE hit districts all over the country where this lWE menace is or it was in the past which restricted the pace of development.
