Waste disposal in State capital goes haywire

Published on:

City denizens who were anxiously waiting for the removal of garbage heaps from their locality remained utterly disheartened when the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) garbage collecting vans and rickshaws did not reach their place despite the promise of RMC CEO Manoj Kumar.

Responding to the complaints of residents regarding overflowing and stinking garbage bins, trash strewed over streets and pavements Kumar had promised to commence the waste collecting work in every ward from Saturday. Ironically, it failed to get conceptualized on the prescribed date.RMC CEO Manjo Kumar said, “Due to non availability of cleaning staffs, the work could not be carried out. We have asked the ward councillors to look into the matter and get the work done as soon as possible. We assure to remove the piled up garbage within a week or two.”

Meanwhile, the residents are irked over the civic body’s irregularities in carrying out their cleaning work.Resident of Vidhyapati Nagar (Kanke Road) Hemika Singh said, “In my locality from past one month we have neither seen the van nor the sweepers for collecting the waste. It has become intolerable now. The promise of CEO has given a ray of hope for us but it all proved worthless. Moreover, although the rain is providing a welcoming relief to the residents but it had also compounded the garbage menace on this road by mixing it with the trash to create a mess.”

Besides, Vidhyapati lane of Kanke road, Nawatoli at Harmu road, PN Bose Compound at lalpur area, Vishnu lane at Main road, Hindpiri area, Devi Mandap road all are sharing the same story.Poonam Bhatia of PN Bose Compound has to hold a handkerchief to her nose each time she passes from the mounds of garbage. Bhatia who is a teacher in a private school, has been going to her school on this stench from past three months.

She said, “I do not understand why these people give any hope when they cannot fulfill it. From past one month I am hearing such blame excuses, I do not think something much will happen in this direction.”Meanwhile, RMC officials have assured to begin the waste collection work in every ward from Monday.

“The work will begin from Monday by any means. Due to ongoing Mayoral election and then followed with the oath taking ceremony the work went off the track. But we will bring it back on track from Monday,” an official said.
