Wary CUJ students leave campus

In a bid to avoid further discord with its students, the CUJ and the Ranchi district administration adjourned classes sine die on Thursday, after friction between the two parties remained unresolved despite intervention from senior district officials. The week-long disputes that began over bad food ended in protests demanding a permanent Vice Chancellor.

“We have suspended classes indefinitely to restore the law and order situation within the campus and avoid any further damage to institution property,” stated the CUJ chief communications officer Rahul Chaturvedi.

After the issues remained unanswered, varsity officials decided to lockdown the institute for 15 days to deal with the complaints. But the students demanded that classes should be adjourned till the problems are completely taken care of. Following this, CUJ management closed the campus sine die.

Students residing in the 16 hostel blocks within the campus were instructed by the varsity administration to vacate their lodgings by noon on Friday. The instruction was complied to the letter, despite rains, students said. “We can only wish that there is a permanent VC when we return and the problems have been dealt with,” stated a student after leaving the university campus.

Though the university administration assured that some problems will be dealt, some, like appointing a permanent VC were given up as ones beyond their authority.
