Peeved over the recent decision taken by Assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon regarding six defecting MlAs who later joined BJP and were recognised by him, Opposition parties will stage a dharna at Raj Bhawan on Monday. Though JMM claimed that the Opposition was united on the issue, the Congress is reluctant to join the move as it does not agree on the issue of domicile being highlighted by the regional parties.
Monday’s dharna was also being considered to be important for the Opposition, which is trying to gang up against the newly formed NDA Government, as it will also provide a platform to show their strength as a united Opposition. Opposition parties like JVM, RJD along with the left parties will be joining the JMM together at Raj Bhawan.
“We will be staging a dharna at Raj Bhawan on Monday against the land acquisition Ordinance and the issue of domicile where the Government is making appointments without deciding the domicile policy of the state,” said JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya. Besides, that the issue of horse trading being done by the BJP after the recent Assembly elections will also raised, added Bhattacharya.
“The decision taken by the Speaker regarding the defection of six Jharkhand Vikas Morcha MlAs is totally unethical and illegal, which is also against the spirit of Democracy,” Bhattacharya said. JVM spokesperson Saroj Singh also asserted that apart from horse trading of six MlAs, they were going on dharna against the land acquisition ordinance and domicile policy.
The Congress however, seems to be reluctant to join the move as according to the senior Congress leaders the party did not agree with JMM on the issue of domicile being projected by the regional parties. “Although we are all together on any decision taken unanimously as a united Opposition but we differ with JMM on some of the issues due to which we might not join the move on Monday,” said a senior Congress leader requesting anonymity.
According to the Congress leader, the party differs on two issues with the JMM. Firstly, it was being projected that the dharna will be led by JMM and secondly, the parameters being fixed on the issue of domicile was not acceptable to them. The Congress leaders believe that the issue of Domicile being sensitive should be raised after a discussion with the other political parties. The JMM and JVM however, refused to drop the issue forcing the Congress party to keep away from it, he added.
Meanwhile, writing a letter to Speaker Dinesh Oraon, JMM has questioned the decision taken by him regarding the six JVM MlAs asking him whether there was any basic process for defection available in the Indian Constitution. JMM Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya has also stated in his letter whether the MlAs can change their basic parties only by informing the Speaker and get recognised by it.
The JMM, through its letter also questioned that was it justified that a decision could be given in favour of accused persons without petitioner given a chance to put his words and was told to extend his support and honour the accused by appearing personally before him.
