Ward councilors raise voice over cleanliness issue

Annoyed with the present condition of cleanliness and lackluster approach of RMSW – Essel Infra in managing the work of solid waste management in all the 53 wards, several councillors yet again raised their voice to terminate the firm. During the monthly board meeting held here on Monday, Ward Councilors got involved in a heated argument with the senior administrative officials including Mayor, Asha lakra and Deputy Mayor, Sanjiv Vijayawargia.

Registering discontentment over the work style of the Municipal Corporation on sanitation front, a few ward councilors tore the list given to them. The list prepared for the councilors considering the requirement of each ward contained a detailed description of total number of work-force to be deployed in different wards after delimitation. Notably, the Municipal Corporation considering the size of each ward had prepared the list. Over 250 labourers have been increased for ensuring regular cleaning at every ward. At present, 1072 labourers lend their service in all 53 wards.

Ward Councilors said that due to the laidback approach of the Civic Body, the cases of vector-borne diseases are on rise. After much uproar, the Mayor who suspended the board meeting for half-an-hour asked the representatives of RMSW Essel Infra to chalk out a sustainable proposal for cleaning all localities managed by the company without delay.

“The company must work to improve its system. Merely doing paper-work will not resolve the issue of cleanliness. The company must conduct a meeting with the ward councilors and try to figure out how the area can be covered up,” added the Mayor.

Similarly, intervening into the matter, Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayawargia in despair said, “In spite of giving sufficient time to the company, no such improvement can be seen in reality.” For the meantime, the officials of the Municipal Corporation stated that looking at the present condition and on the demand of the ward councilors, the list will be revised. Presently, MSW-Essel Infra is managing the door to door garbage collection in 33 wards whereas rest 20 wards are under the Municipal Corporation.
