Disappointed with the service of MSW (Essel Infra) Pvt. ltd - the company appointed for managing the solid waste of the city, ward councilors during a special meeting on Monday demanded Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) officials to terminate the firm immediately on the ground of unprofessional conduct. On October 2, 2016, MSW was empanelled in RMC for managing door to door garbage collection in the capital city.
Registering their discontentment, a majority of ward councilors while discussing sanitation issue of their respective wards termed the work of the concerned company a mere waste of public money.
lambasting on the representatives of MSW (Essel Infra) Pvt. ltd, ward councilor of 43, Shashi Singh said that unnecessary muddle is being created by the company while the condition of different wards from cleanliness perspective remains below average. “I request the Municipal Corporation heads to take back the service of MSW Essel Infra from my ward. Since, we manage the door to door garbage collection service with the help of RMC, there is no need to keep a firm that do not serve the purpose,” added Singh.
Besides, quoting about the substandard service of the company, a few ward councilors stated that the officials of Essel Infra never respond on time despite of urgency. “The idea of ‘Swacch Bharat Swasth Bharat’ has utterly failed due to the sheer negligence of MSW as no change is witnessed in reality. Be it availability of labourers, equipments, timing or toll-free number service, the company has failed miserably on all fronts,” said, ward councilor of 37, Om Prakash.
Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Sanjiv Vijayawargia who presided over this special meeting called on the request of ward councilors said that he too is unsatisfied with the work of MSW Essel Infra. Questioning the representatives of the firm during the meeting, Vijayawargia said that despite rounds of warning, the company is yet to clarify as on when it will take the charge of all the 53 wards as per the agreement made. Notably, the company has taken the charge of 33 wards while rest 20 wards are being managed by the civic body.
Further, Vijayawargia raised ‘Jhiri’ issue where the company was supposed to make approach roads and construct boundary walls, covering the area where wastes are dumped. The Deputy Mayor asked the officials of MSW Essel Infra to state appropriate reasons why approaching roads and boundary walls construction project is hanging in balance since 2017.
Putting company’s stance, the officials just asserted that attempts are being made to rationalize the service by increasing the resources while ‘Jhiri’ issue has been resolved as the construction task at the dumping yard is likely to begin soon.
