The standing committee meeting of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Saturday was boycotted by all the eleven members of committee. The standing committee meeting of RMC is held every month to discuss upon few vital agendas.
However, on Saturday the meeting was not conducted. “I was present for the meeting as per the schedule and the circular of the meeting was already sent to the respective committee members but nobody turned down for the meeting. It is unfortunate and total disrespect to the RMC guidelines,” said Mayor Asha lakra.
Disclosing details about meeting agenda lakra further added, “Two vital agenda on Dawai Dost and revenue collection were to be discussed in the meeting with the members. We have received proposal for opening Dawai Dost centres at different wards in order to provide generic medicines to the people. I wanted to conduct the meeting on the basis Jharkhand Municipal act following all the regulations.”
On the other hand Standing committee members has their own reasons to cite, Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijaywargia informed, “The standing committee members have already requested mayor two times earlier to conduct the meeting but mayor never conducted it. They have sent written letter to mayor earlier regarding the matter. According to the Jharkhand Municipal Act 78 (2) if one-fifth members demands for a meeting then meeting must be conducted within 48 hours but then also this time the meeting was not conducted and as a result committee members today boycotted the meeting. The committee members have written a letter regarding the matter to Municipal Commissioner.”
Moreover, the Mayor tried to contact all the members associated with the standing committee on Saturday but members were unavailable for the comment, he said.
“We have earlier sent two letters to the mayor for conducting standing committee meeting on October 28 and October 30 respectively but mayor did not give any response and then we have unanimously decided to boycott the meeting on November 14,” said Arun Kumar Jha, member of standing committee.
