Wait gets longer for wider Hazaribagh-Barhi Road

Published on:

The ongoing four lane construction work of NH-33 between Hazaribagh and Barhi is set to get delayed because the forest department has yet not provided the no-objection letter to the administration. About 13-km-long stretch of the road falls in the middle of Hazaribagh Sanctuary area which is also known here as the National Park area.

The construction work of this section of NH-33 had started years ago with the four lane work of Ranchi-Hazaribagh section of this highway. The Ranchi-Hazaribagh highway is serving the people since last more than 4-5 years but the remaining 40 km section between Hazaribagh and Barhi of this highway is still waiting for its good days.

The work order of this section of NH-33 was given first to M/S Abhijeet Construction and Engineering Company, which left the work after some years. When the first company withdrew itself from the construction work then NHAI again floated tender notice. After repeated tenders finally M/S Ramki Construction Works came forward and took the work to complete the remaining work.

M/S Ramki Construction started working at ground about 6 months ago and during this period it has almost developed the structure of the four lane except in the 13-km-long stretch which falls in National Park area. Since the road falls in forest area so no-objection certificate and transfer of forest land to NHAI is needed.

Some months ago a high level team of officials of NHAI and forest department had visited the site and at that time it was decided that here there will be an elevated corridor having underpasses for free movement of fauna of the forest area.

Though local MP Jayant Sinha is trying his best to remove the hurdles on the path of construction of this road but the forest clearance has yet not been given. The construction company has planned to remove plants during this rainy season when normally road construction work remains halted.

It has arranged machines etc for elevation of this section and removing the trees but the equipments are standing in the yard and the rainy season has almost reached to its end.

According to our sources in M/S Ramki Construction, their plan of finishing this road by March 2018 is now unachievable. Their officials are in regular touch with the officials of district administration and NHAI but no result is coming out. It clearly indicates that the denizens who use to travel on this section of NH-33 will have to bear the shocks of bad road for more time in comparison to the assurance given by the leaders and administration.
