Volvo - more of a name to attract ignorant passengers

Published on:

Want to ride a ‘luxury Volvo’ bus and pay price like local makes! Please come to Jharkhand. Private buses would take you for a ride on a vehicle written ‘Volvo’ very proudly and loudly over it.

It is a very common site in the State that can see Indian brand of buses running with the sign of the Ford Motor owned company, manufacturing costly luxurious buses and other vehicles. Usually manufactured by Tata or Ashok laylend they adopt the brand name to fish passengers. Many customary buses with the brand tag ‘Volvo’ that can be easily traced in and around almost all the bus depots in Ranchi.

When asked to the bus trippers about this usage they could hardly justify the reason for it, but simply conjectured it for better bus accommodation facility than usual. “It depicts better bus facility,” a passenger said. Most of the passengers don’t know the difference between the original Volvo bus and these fake buses, which impersonate the hallmark ‘Volvo’ to attract people.

The buses, which are tagged to be Volvo, are more embellished with curtains and other luxuries to make it more enticing.  It is obvious that many people have mistaken these to be original Volvo buses. The total number of original Volvo buses that come into Ranchi is just two, which belongs to the Bihar Tourism and starts from Patna. In fact, Ranchi does not possess any Volvo bus owned by the Jharkhand Government.

“Original Volvo buses lie in huge contrast with the other buses due to its more advance functioning system. Private bus drivers simply adopt the brand ‘Volvo’ to attract passengers and cheat them, who usually are not aware for its usage. They simply use this title all over their buses to proclaim their air conditioned facility.” Faraz Ahmed, an original Volvo bus driver of Bihar Tourism, said.

A bus drivers at Kadhgarha bus depot near Kanta Toil, a slight revelation behind the usage of the brand name ‘Volvo’ came into light. “We don’t simply tag our buses as Volvo, but there are certain mechanical parts by Volvo Company that are installed in our buses.” a bus driver claimed while justifying the propaganda.

Despite this information accounted by the bus drivers, it is apparent that this persona of brand name helps to attract more passengers, who ‘feel’ like travelling in a ‘Volvo’ and even narrate it proudly to others.
