Parents of Class VII student of Sapphire International School Vinay Mahto on Thursday trashed police's investigation report and reiterated demand for a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation. Even as police cited love affair to be the reason that led to the murder of the 13-year-old boy, family members alleged deliberate attempt to divert attention from the case and shield the real culprit.

Police claiming to have connected the dots between the murder and the suspect went public about the investigation report on Wednesday and maintained that the murder Vinay's parents stick to CBI probe demand happened due to cosy relations between the victim and the 12-year-old sister of the prime accused. Vinay's father could not be reached as he was busy in performing rituals.

"No one in the family is ready to believe what police is trying to explain. How can it be possible that we are not aware of what police say is the reason behind the killing. The school used to inform us even about small health problems such as fever. So, it is not possible that this (love affair) is something which can escape our attention," said Vinay's cousin Kishwar.

Manbahal Mahto, Vinay's father, was quoted as saying on Wednesday that he has demanded CBI enquiry into the incident and did not believe the theory which police are suggesting to be the reason for the heinous crime. Relatives close to the family expressed that they were not consulted at any point during the course of the investigation. Police's new line of investigation has been contested by Vinay's mother also and she vehemently opposed the theory of honour killing.

"We were never asked about his (Vinay) relationship with the girl. Neither the school administration shared any details with us nor the police ever tried to know whether we were aware of the fact or not. The family members believe that the police investigation is big cover up to save someone's skin," said Vinay's cousin.

lapses on the part of the school administration are yet to be ascertained. A committee formed by Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi, Manoj Kumar, is examining the role of the school administration in the brutal assault and murder of the Class VII student. Nonetheless, their direct involvement was ruled by police on the day when it claimed to uncover the murder mystery.

Meanwhile, the four accused-Nazia Hussain, Arif Ansari, their 12-year-old daughter and the 16-year-old son and prime accused-have rejected involvement in the crime. All the four accused were produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Chandrabhanu Kumar on Thursday. While Nazia and Arif have been sent in 14 days of judicial remand, the two minors have been sent to remand home.
