Villages near Birsa Airport to get facelift

In a bid to ensure overall development of the marginalised class, some of  the villages falling under the jurisdiction of Ranchi district administration will soon be given a facelift. The Ranchi district administration on Tuesday signed an MoU with United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) regarding the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project of Airport Authority of India (AAI) Limited.

Focusing on inclusive community development, as many as 12 villages situated around the proximity of Birsa Munda Airport will be developed soon by AAI Limited at a cost of Rs. 6.18 crore. The project conceived seeking different developmental modules will receive the technical assistance from UNDP and formulated in consultation with Ranchi district administration.

Hundru, Chota Ghaggra, Hethu, chandaghasi, Churu Lodhma, Karamtoli, Kachecholi, Latma, Nariguttu, khijri, Pokhartoli and Tumbagattu have been identified by AAI and will be developed with all civic amenities besides ensuring the execution of different State and Central government schemes.

“Raising the standard of living of the villagers is the main purpose of the district administration. Healthcare facilities, drinking water and sanitation services including other factors will be ensured on a priority basis. Further, intervention will be made to recognise several other factors in consultation with the primary agency involved in the venture. All plans before being implemented will be first tabled before the district administration team,” said Ranchi DC, Rai Mahimapat Ray.

The identified villages will be developed in three years taking into consideration five major factors. Disaster management, health, education, skill development including community infrastructure are the key parameters on which the development work at all the identified villages will be carried out. Also, a three-month intervention time is given to UNDP to identify a few more domains that affect the demography including their socio-economic-cultural factors at these villages.

“An extensive survey was carried out a few years ago to identify the factors that will best go with the changes there. After two years of research which was conducted in association with several NGOs, focus will be on improving the basic indicators first. Also, other factors will be also taken into consideration during the course of development at the identified villages,” said a representative of UNDP.

“As per the blueprint, installing mobile medical units, up gradation of six government high schools which includes electrification and setting up hi-tech computer laboratories, infrastructural assessment will be carried out at the earliest. A rough estimate suggests that the total population of the villages is around 22, 000,” the representative of UNDP further stated. The developmental projects which will be accomplished from the world’s third largest CSR fund have linked several other comprehensive plans with the venture. “In the wake of expanding the airport’s parking area, the AAI has taken up a quite a number of ventures. All developmental activities will be carried out phase wise,” said Manish Mohandas, Project Manager – UNDP.
