Villagers on Sunday prevented a 15-year-old girl to become the victim of human trafficking at Hesopiri village under Namkom Police Station in Ranchi. The three persons from Gurgaon of Haryana who have come in search of a partner in the tribal village also made hostages by the villagers for hours and later handed over to the police.

later, it was revealed by them that a deal had been fixed by the two parties for Rs 50,000 to be paid to the girl’s parents. Rs 10,000 had already been paid in advance by them.

“We have detained three persons hailing from Gurgaon in Haryana, who were said to have come to the village to get the girl along with themselves allegedly for marriage,” said officer in charge of Namkom Police Station Vinod Kumar. The three detained persons will soon be arrested after a formal complaint is lodged by the villagers, said the Kumar.

They however, claim to have come to the village to take their wife to home whom they had married a few months wife. According to those persons, the girl had come to her parents place at the occasion of Durga Puja, said Kumar.

As soon as the villagers came to know that some people have come to their village from Haryana to take a girl with them, they caught hold of the three and tied them with a rope at the village Panchayat.

Firstly, the three denied of any such allegation but later after being threatened of dire consequences from the villagers, they revealed that they had come to take the girl for marriage which was already fixed by some other girl who was earlier marriage in their village.

Jai Kishan, the proposed groom, revealed that due to the poor sex ratio in their State, they are forced to march towards the other States for marriage. “As I was being rejected regularly by the girls there, I was forced to move towards Jharkhand where girls are easily available for marriage,” said Kisahn. He has also denied of making any deal in this regard.

Mukhia of the village on the other hand, said that the deal had been fixed for Rs 50000. “The deal was fixed for Rs 50000 while a sum of Rs 10000 had been paid as advance,” said the village headman.

The plan was thwarted by the villagers as such marriages are not recognised in their society and strongly objected the intentions of those persons handing over the three to the police.
