A village in lesliganj block witnessed a lynching of two men late on Monday. Paranoid Murmusi locals killed Vijay Dome (25) and left Tuntun Dome critical, taking them to be thieves.
lesliganj Police Station officer NP Tigga said it was sheer luck that Tuntun did not die of the merciless beating. Of late, Palamau locals are convinced that their villages are beset with thieves. Any stranger sighted at night is taken for a rogue. If they run when chased by the mob - as the duo had done - they are branded guilty.
SP NK Singh has taken a strong exception and asked Tigga to file FIRs against known and unknown persons for taking the law into their hands. He was deeply concerned by rumours prodding villagers to run riot. Singh appealed to all village elders to desist from such action.
