The newly constructed Atal Smriti Vendors Market will be formally made operational from February 11. The decision was taken during Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) council meeting conducted here on Tuesday. “With 300 street sellers, the vendors’ market will be made operational. After addressing the claims/objections and receiving the consent of Town Vending Committee (TVC) members, the tentative date has been released,” said Mayor Asha Lakra.
Notably, the operation of Vendors Market was hanging in the balance since past few months. The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) had recently floated the tender to rope in a competent operation and maintenance (O&M) agency. The structure was inaugurated on November 16 for the rehabilitation of street vendors, often blamed for creating havoc alongside the busiest avenues.
After its inauguration, it was presumed that one of the State Capital’s busiest roads will get rid of regular traffic chaos once the marketing complex is made serviceable yet the ‘No Vending Zone’ remains under the dominance of street sellers. “Once the vendors’ market will be started, the stretch from Kutchery Chowk to Albert Ekka Chowk will be declared ‘No Vending Zone’. An advisory regarding this has been issued to RMC Enforcement Cell,” added the Mayor. Meanwhile, during the meeting, the ward councilors gave their consent to draft the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for carrying out revamping activities at Capital City’s major prime spots. “Beginning with New Market, Harmu, Bariatu, Argora, Dhurwa and covering all major avenues of Booty More, all prime spots will be restored in the days to come. Renovation of Raen-Baseras, shelter-homes will be completed at the earliest,” the Mayor assured. As many as 15 agendas were taken during the meet. The Council members will accomplish major civic tasks with the monetary assistance of 14th Finance Commission. Proposal of as many as 100 schemes have been sent to the Commission.
“Tenders, estimates have been done for several projects. Recently, Rs 245 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of roads (3-4 Km). Also, each ward will get HYDTs,” said the Mayor.
