Vehicle theft cases prompt cops to adopt innovative steps

As the number of vehicle theft cases have gone up considerably in the last six months in Ranchi as well as in the State, the police have gone for some extra effort to check the crime.

By identifying some vulnerable spots quite known for vehicle lifting such as parking places, in front of residences, shops and market places the police have deployed constables in plain cloths to nab the lifters.

While talking over the measures taken, City SP C Manoj Ratan expressed that the department has marked several places such as Daily market area, Big Bazzar, Sainik Market, Civil Court and many others of the city where vehicle theft occurs on regular basis. “To stop theft and grab the culprits police constables and officials have been deployed in civil dress so that the culprits can be identified. The steps have been helpful in bringing down such cases that have decreased more than half after I joined,” said the City SP.

He also said that as his department has started taking safety measures to stop such crime cases, they got success in cracking three vehicle gangs and 18 to 19 culprits which revealed vehicle theft, and as he said one such gang was grabbed from Bangladesh border last month in which they recovered a Ranchi base truck.

On the basis of safety measures SP City also said that they have also marked some culprits and gangs, who are under interrogation and some are under police observation. Manoj appeals the people of Jharkhand to take personal safety measures for their vehicles and other things instead of fully depending on the state police.

A senior police official of Kotwali police station Arvind Kumar said that most of the stolen vehicles are sent and sold to village areas and Maoists. If regular and systematic checking is started in the village areas he feels that more than 50 percent of the stolen vehicles can be recovered from these areas. But still Arvind appeals the people of Ranchi to install some extra lock and some other safety measures for the protection of the vehicles instead of depending on the company made single lock in the vehicles. Stepping forward towards safety measures Arvind said that they have marked some theft areas and people to which they are observing with the help of officials and constables deployed in civil dresses in the said areas.

Despite all the safety measures which is said to be taken by the police Rashid Khan, a tailor by profession lost his new splendor bike which is said to be parked just in front of the shop from Morhabadi residential area. According to Rashid a new four wheeler was also stolen on October 10 from the same place of his neighbor which seems to be shocking incident for him.
