Shravan Shivratri, observed during the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi (14th night of the waning moon) in the month of Sawan (Shravan), holds immense spiritual and Vedic significance. Unlike Maha Shivratri which falls in Phalguna (Feb-March), this Shivratri is considered especially powerful due to its alignment with the highly auspicious month dedicated to Lord Shiva.
According to the Hindu calendar, Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha of Sawan month will commence from 04.39 am on 23rd July and will end on the next day i.e. 24th July at 02.28 am. The best time for Shiva Puja starting on 23rd July is in Nishit Kaal of 24th July from 12.07 am to 12.48 am.

According to Vedic texts like the Skanda Purana and Shiva Purana, the month of Shravan is when devotees can most easily attain Lord Shiva's blessings.
Each Monday (Somvar) of Sawan is sacred, but Shivratri of Sawan is believed to be the most potent night for Shiva Sadhana, Rudrabhishek, and inner transformation. Shivratri represents the union of Shiva and Shakti, the merging ofl Purusha (consciousness) and Prakriti (energy). On the Sawan Shivratri, this cosmic harmony is at its peak. The Chaturdashi Tithi, just before the Amavasya, is known to enhance meditative energies. Vedic traditions consider it ideal for Tapasya (austerity), Japa (chanting), and Dhyana (meditation).
As per the mythological it is believed that during Samudra Manthan, Halahala poison emerged, and Lord Shiva consumed it to save the world. This act happened during Shravan, which is why devotees offer water, milk, and bilva leaves to cool and honor Lord Shiva. The Yajurveda speaks of Rudra Abhisheka with sacred items like water, milk, ghee, honey, curd, and bilva leaves to please Rudra and remove karmic impurities.
Practices Recommended: Fasting (Vrat): Devotees observe a strict fast (Nirjala or with fruits), believing it purifies body and mind.
Night-long Jagran: Singing Shiva bhajans, chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" or Rudra Mantra through the night.
Rudrabhishek Puja: Performing Abhishek with Vedic mantras like Rudram, Chamakam, Mahamrityunjaya Japa.
Offering Bilva Patra: As per the Shiva Purana, offering 3-leafed Bilva to Shivling destroys sins of 3 lifetimes.
