Governor Syed Ahmed on Wednesday held an hour-long meeting with Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Chief Secretary Sajal Chakaraborty along with HRD Secretary K Vidyasagar and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sukhdeo Singh and other officials on the issue of required amendments in Jharkhand State Universities Act 2000.
The Governor held a detailed discussion on recruitment of Vice Chancellors and Pro Vice Chancellors on the vacant posts in State run universities. The Governor had earlier asked the State Human Resources Development (HRD) department to make some amendments in the Act. Following which, a committee under HRD Principal Secretary K Vidyasagar and Higher Education Director DN Ojha met on Monday. The recommendations made by the committee were to be submitted to the Governor. list of the members of the committee include former Ranchi University (RU) Vice Chancellors (VC) AA Khan and KK Nag along with the present VC lN Bhagat.
Notably, appointment of VCs of Kolhan University (KU), Vinoba Bhave University (VBU), Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU) and Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) have been kept on halt since long followed by the objections raised by HRD minister Geetashree Oraon raising questions on the process followed in forming the ‘search committee’ which according to her was against the guidelines of JSU Act 2000.
