VBU on defensive over online admission system

Published on:

On Sunday about a dozen teachers and staff were puzzling with the objections submitted by students regarding the discrepancies in the admission list issued by Vinoba Bhave University on the basis of online admission system. Actually this exercise is going on since the start of this month, three lists were issued but the number of complains has increased instead of going down.

It indicates that the chart buster performance claims of Vinoba Bhave University administration are proving flop one by one. Earlier in this month in the open dialog with students of VBU HRD Minister Neera Yadav had accepted that introduction of CBCS without preparation was a mistake.

Also on July 15 VC Prof Gurdeep Singh had admitted about the anomalies in the admission list and had assured that anomaly free list will be issued within three days. He had a’lso accepted that there is no infrastructure in colleges so students are going to cyber cafes for filling admission forms where they are forced to pay more than the market rate.

In the session 2016-19 Vinoba Bhave University initiated online admission process with a claim that it is the first in the state and second University in the country to start this system. The last date of filling forms was June 30, 2016. Since the instructions were not clear so many students failed to fill the online form correctly and many failed to pay its requisite fee for which online facility was not available.

VBU administration tried to come out with these major problems by considering all the applications and depositing admission form fee at the time of admission but it also failed.

Now VBU administration is on face saving mode. It has once again announced the date of filling online admission forms for both UG and PG courses, and has also rescheduled the dates of issue of list and admission.

But according to sources this effort is also not going to work because most of the students, especially from rural areas are still unaware about this system and sooner or later the university will have to once again allow old offline system. Session is already going late and further delay in completion of admission process will not only increase pressure on students but on university administration too.
