The non-teaching staff of Vinoba Bhave University are once again on the path of agitation, demanding payment according to the sixth pay scale. The General Secretary of Jharkhand State University/College Staff Union said that they have planned to intensify the agitation phase wise. On Wednesday, the members of the union remained on leave and sat on dharna in front of VBU’s administrative building.
Addressing the gathering, union leaders said that VBU administration is giving a step-motherly to the non-teaching staff. On one hand it is paying sixth pay scale to those teachers whose revised scale has yet not been fixed by the State Government and on the other hand denying to do so for non-teachings’. The non-teachings of VBU are getting fifth pay scale and forth pay scale but no one is taking interest in solving this major problem.
On this General Secretary Anil Kumar said “this time we are not going to postpone or call off the agitation and if University administration really wants to do something for us then will have to start paying sixth pay scale to all non-teachings from the month of August from its internal fund as they are doing for teachers.”
Pro-VC Prof. Manoranjan Prasad Sinha met with the agitating non-teachings and assured them to find out some solution of this problem within few days. He admitted that the demand of payment of sixth pay scale is genuine because this scale is admissible since 1st of January 2006.
After the dharna programme the leaders announced about their next phase of agitation. From 19th to 23rd August the non-teachings will boycott their works and from 25th they will start fast unto death program. In this dharna programme representatives of non-teachings from all constituent colleges of Vinoba Bhave University participated.
This time the non-teachings have chosen a critical time for their agitation. From 26th August degree part I 2014 exams are scheduled to start and if the non-teachings will not participate in conducting this exam it will be very hard for the University administration to take the exam. It is also in the mind of officials of VBU so it can be hoped that the administration will soon sit with the union leaders with a negotiable solution.
