The marathon meeting of the Finance Committee of Vinoba Bhave University concluded in the late evening on Friday. In the first ever meeting during the regime of Vice-Chancellor (VC) Gurdeep Singh and Pro-VC MK Sinha, members seem to be in infuriated. They started raising questions and putting hard queries before the University administration as soon as the meeting started. During the meeting which went on for over five hours, members have given their conditional approval to almost all the proposals.
The university sources informed that during the meeting, PVC and Registrar were the main target of some members. They raised question on their presence in the meeting because as per University law they are not the members of finance committee. Singh however, saved their prestige by his reply that both have been called by him to assist him on the proposals and quarries of the members.
In this meeting budget of vocational department was passed along with proposals of new constructions in sent by different colleges with a condition that every department and college will get the amount only after submission of utilisation certificate of the amount released to them last time and the position of account showing how much amount is in balance in their development head.
The members raised questions on the recommendations of sell and purchase committee especially on the decision of purchase of new vehicles for VC and Registrar. They also objected on the amount sanctioned for the renovation of VC residence. The proposal of purchase of books of Rs 4 crore also failed in the screen test of finance committee.
