VBU crisis ends, queries remain unanswered

Published on:

The crisis at Vinoba Bhave University seems to be over as the deans and heads have withdrawn their collective resignation. Now everything seems to be back on the track in VBU but the questions which arose during these 4-5 days are unanswered yet.

It was the first time in the history of any State-run university of Jharkhand and Bihar that heads and deans, who are an important part of any university's administration, have resigned collectively. In their resignation letter addressed to Vice-Chancellor they used words like erratic, arrogant behavior, unparliamentary utterances etc.

Collective resignation and use of such words arose questions in the mind of everyone directly or indirectly associated with university or education field that what was the reason behind itIJ Who is responsible for this which brought ill-fame for the universityIJ And above all was it the start of a new kind of tussle of power or the endIJ

Actually this collective resignation has given everyone in VBU a chance to retrospect because of its wider media coverage. Before this incident some months ago financial advisor MA Ansari had resigned and after intervention of Chancellor Office had withdrawn it. After that Ex-Examination Controller cum Finance Officer Dr. AM Siddique resigned from both posts. It is also in air that Dean Humanities and HOD Hindi Dr. Sudha Goswami had resigned just before this collective resignation. But all these resignations remained away from the eyes of a large section of media.

The entire episode of this collective resignation and withdrawal proved the crisis management skill of the present university administration led by VC Prof. Gurdeep Singh but the chain of resignations since last some months are speaking that there is something lacking in administrative skill of the present team.

No doubt discontent among all section of the university whether it is teacher, staff or student has risen in last few months which anyone can feel after talking with the teachers, staffs and students of this university. The present administration is successful till now in tackling the discontent but the insiders say that the collective resignation was the first eruption of volcano of discontent and if the present administration will not self retrospect and correct the things then it will not be the last.
