Age matters in retirement. And it hurts most if in the same institution one retires at the age of 65 while the other at 60 especially when both of them have come from the teaching line!
This anomaly and disparity in the retirement age when these officials are drawn from the teaching lines has been pointed out by the Officers Association of Universities of Jharkhand with reasons to scrap the 60 years retirement provision for officers.
“A VC retires at 65 . A registrar at 60. And both are teachers in majority of cases. A college teacher retires at the age of 65. A university official like registrar, deputy registrar, controller of examination, finance officer, deputy controller of examination, deputy finance officer and assistant registrar who also come from teaching lines like registrar controller of examinations finance officer ( 15 years of teaching experience mandatory) deputy registrar, deputy controller of examination deputy finance officer ( 9 years of mandatory teaching experience) and assistant registrar ( 55 % marks in post graduate course) retires at the age of 60,” said Convener of Officers Association Of Universities of Jharkhand GP Singh.
Singh added further, “We too are teachers. We have teaching experience. We administer. We deliver and this is the price of our service that we lose five years of our service length.” The Association has written to the Union HRD Minister to intervene in this matter. “A copy of this letter has also been sent to the UGC Chairman, Jharkhand HRD Minister, Jharkhand higher technical education secretary, minister of state union HRD ministry, secretary union HRD ministry and secretary UGC Delhi as well,” added Singh.
Singh said the Officers Association has one more demand and it is to de tenure the post of registrar, controller of examination finance officer who are shown the door after four years of the tenure. He said our demand is that these three posts be made a regular one.
G P Singh who is the deputy registrar in NP university Medininagar said it would be in the interest of the universities if the retirement age of these officials ( mentioned above) is raised to 65 and three posts ( mentioned above) are freed of tenure.
