As many as 2,000 to 3,000 non-teaching staffs hailing from the five State universities would organise a mass protest at Ranchi University (RU) on Saturday against non-fulfilment of their demands of salary and promotion.
These staffs who are on strike since February 19 were recently requested by the government to rejoin their work by 5 pm of May 17 after which primitive action would be taken against them.
As per sources, the rejoining of staffs was almost 90 percent at Ranchi University (RU) wherein non-teaching employees at colleges under Sisai, Bundu, JN College, Marwari college and Doranda college but in colleges under Nilamber Pitamber University and Vinoba Bhave University the joining was not much.
State Universities comprising RU, NPU, VBU, Sido Kanhu Murmu University and Kolhan University have not yet confirmed that what primitive steps they would take against the staffs who have not joined. Probably, no salary provision would be the major step to be taken in this matter.
“We want written decision from the state government that they have planned to give us our pending Assured Career Promotion, Sixth pay commission and fifth pay commission facilities.
They have just given us a verbal assurance to fulfil our promises. The Principals of all the university colleges are requesting us to end our strike since the administrative work is getting affected but we are helpless because the government has done the same assurance game in 2007 and 2010 when we asked them to implement our justified demands notified by the Supreme Court as well,” said Shivji Tiwari, General Secretary of Jharkhand Non-Teaching Staff Association (JNTSA) while showing Supreme Court and Bihar government documents to implement their demands long back.
Adding more confusion to this strike, State Government officials claim that around 3,500 to 4,000 staffs are on strike in the state but the JNTSA people claim that as many as 6,000 employees are suffering because of the State’s negligence towards their woes.
