Valentine’s Day celebrations in the city were largely peaceful under strict vigil on Friday. Over 200 police personnel were deployed at different parts of the city, especially along Jubilee Park where people gathered in large numbers.

Most of the shops and shopping malls were decorated with red ribbons and heartshaped balloons. The weather also turned a little pleasant as people enjoyed bright sunshine.

However activists of the Rashtriya Manav Jan Kalyan Sena and Shiv Sena visited different places including Jubilee Park to spread awareness on Indian culture and customs. “We are not against love but indecent behaviour in public. We do carry out protests but in a peaceful manner only to promote our tradition against westernisation,” said Krishna

Murari Mishra, a member of Rashtriya Manav Jan Kalyan Sena. On the other hand the Akhil Bharatiya Sonia Gandhi Prachar Dal gifted roses and sweets on Valentine’s Day to the couples. Kishan Khanna, spokesperson of the Akhil Bharatiya Sonia Gandhi Prachar Dal said that they are here to spread the message of happiness and love in the society.
