Notorious for pathetic work culture, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has been warned by newly appointed Minister for Urban Development CP Singh for taking the job casually and has been asked to pull up their socks and smoothen the functioning of public related works.
Singh was addressing the employees of the corporation on Saturday. The Minister is an MlA from Ranchi Assembly Constituency and by virtue of being the five-time MlA of the constituency claims to know the city like the back of his hand. Singh unequivocally asked employees to end the practice of agitation and resort to work besides refraining from putting undue demands for discharging duty.
“I am in Ranchi since 1968. So, I know every details of the city... I won’t seek explanations for what happened earlier but now you will have to work. There will be no compromise with work and there must be transparency in the work done. You are paid for the doing works so do that and don’t put charter of demands because I know it,” said Singh.
The civic body is often criticized for dragging its feet over petty works like issuing certificates and hurdles in getting work done until an employee is obliged by public. The Minister issued stern warning against the practice that has brought more disrepute to the body under Urban Development Department and forthrightly cautioned the employees to shun the habit else face the music.
“I don’t want to hear that someone who came for obtaining death certificate is made to run from pillar to post and money is demanded to issue it. I would give one-month to the employees’ association to shun the practice. Whatever happened in the past shall not happen in 2015 and if it happens then be ready to face consequences,” asserted the Minister.
The RMC has also been in the dock due to shoddy solid waste management in the capital and alleged discrepancies in the distribution of wages to labourers engaged in menial jobs and incidentally the backbone of the waste management in the city. The outspoken BJP leader urged for a practical approach to the problems of the employees at the bottom of the organisational structure and often the victim of institutional indifference.
“It should not happen that officers get salary on time whereas there is no time frame to pay those who clean waste generated by others,” added Singh. The Minister who is yet to officially take charge of the office asked for improvements in the delivery system to end grievances of people with the municipal corporation and expressed his ambition of improving the condition of cities across Jharkhand.
