A domestic help named Baby was arrested from Sadar police station area on charges of murdering her newborn child. She had allegedly thrown her child from the balcony of flat 601 in Block B of State Square Apartments in Rani Bagan area of the city on Tuesday. The one month old child died on impact.
The house, where she committed the gruesome act belongs to her employer Kishan lal. She was captured soon by the residents of the apartment and later handed over to police. The dead body of the deceased child has been sent for post-mortem examination.
According to police sources, Baby, who is unmarried, committed the heinous act to elude ridicule from the society for birthing an illegitimate child.
“She has accepted throwing down her child from the sixth floor. She wanted to get rid of her offspring as she is still unmarried. She is presently detained and we are awaiting post-mortem report of the child,” stated Sadar Officer in-Charge Bhola Nath Singh.
Baby was later transferred to Mahila thana for protection. Meanwhile, investigators in the case are looking for the biological father of the child.
“We will have the DNA samples of the child tested to ascertain the identity of the biological father. Presently, we are questioning the detained mother and based on the apparent information, prima facie it seems that she committed the crime to due to fear of public shaming,” stated Senior Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Dwivedi.
