Unruly scenes were witnessed at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) governing body meet on Wednesday, as State BJP spokesperson and governing body member Pratul Shahdeo was stopped from entering the meeting.
Shahdeo, who had received invitation for attending the meeting on October 12 in capacity as governing body member, was stopped from entering the meeting as he had reached the venue with a toy-car to gift health minister Banna Gupta.
Shahdeo reached the venue with a toy car as a day ahead of the meeting, there was a news report at various vernacular newspapers that in the meeting the RIMS body is to give its nod to an agenda under which the State's biggest health hub is to gift a car to the health minister.
The governing body meeting had stoked a controversy as RIMS authorities allegedly ignored the rules and regulations in gifting a car to the health minister.
It was the first time in the history of RIMS that a sitting state health minister was to get a vehicle from the funds allocated from it.
When Shahdeo reached the venue for attending the meeting, the security personnel at the gate stopped him as he was carrying a toy car.
There was a heated argument between Shahdeo and security personnel. However, after some time Shahdeo was allowed to enter the meeting room.
Sources said that RIMS had proposed to buy three vehicles, which includes a van for blood bank, a minibus for the students and a vehicle for the health minister.
RIMS became autonomous in 2002 after upgrading from erstwhile Rajendra Medical College and Hospital.
The important decision that was taken at today's governing body meeting was developing the multi storied unused parking as OPD. A governing body member requesting anonymity said, "At the meeting it was resolved to develop the multi storied unused parking building of RIMS as an OPD block so that patients reaching hospital for treatment on a daily basis don't face problems."
The four floor parking building at an estimated cost of Rs 14 crore was constructed a few years back for providing parking around 350 vehicles but the building remains unused. The parking building remained unused as it was a kilometre away from the main building.
