The Argora Police on Saturday recovered an unidentified body from a water tank in Harmu Housing Colony. Although, the police was informed about the incident around 8 pm on Friday night, the body was pulled out on Saturday morning.
“The body could not be identified. We have sent the body for post-mortem which should come by Monday,” said PS in-charge of Argora. The Police seem puzzled about causes of death as there is no visible injury marks over the dead body of the youth. “It seems that the dead body is three to four day old,” said DSP Nisha Murmu.
According to sources, the man deputed at the water tank discovered the floating body while he was trying to measure water level in the tank. The information was passed on to the Police who subsequently pulled the body out of water with external help. Interestingly, the water tank is used to supply water in the locality thus evoking strong reactions from the people of the area. People were agitated also because of negligence on the part of the Police and officials for failing to keep the tank clean during chhath.
“The festival holds a lot of significance for people. Water that is supplied is used by everyone in the locality. You can imagine the lapse on the part of the officials,” said Ramendra Kumar, a resident of Harmu Housing Colony. Incidentally, recovery of the dead body has sent panic waves among the residents who have expressed concern over security of such installations and criticized Police for failing to secure such places. Police although acknowledged lapses on its part asked people to share the responsibility of securing such places.
“I admit the lapse but it is people’s responsibility at the same time that they must inform police about incidents like these,” maintained Murmu.
