The Art of living Foundation (AOl) and United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) have partnered to launch a nationwide campaign, Awaken India, in support of the girl child.

As a part of this campaign, an event is being organized in Mecon Football ground, Shyamali Colony on December 14 where participants will take a pledge to educate the girl child and protect her from violence, abuse, malnutrition, female foeticide and child marriage. An AOl member said, “We are informing the school students about the importance of protecting this gender who in turn will be our participants in this moment.”

“UNICEF has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AOl for protection of women and girl child in New Delhi. The main objective of this coordination is to break the silence of violence, discrimination and abuse on such people,” mentioned UNICEF Jharkhand Chief Job Zachariah.

Zachariah added, “With regard to this MOU, we are providing AOl financial support to organize campaigns as they have influential persons who can encourage others to respect the female gender.” AOl has invited Sahil Jagtiani from International AOl foundation centre at Bangalore as speaker for this campaign.
