Question mark still exists over the fate of hundreds of candidates who were aspiring to enter State’s administrative services by clearing the 5th Jharkhand Public Service Commission Mains examination which was originally scheduled to be held in June, 2014.
The decision to put the examination on hold was taken on the issue of murky provisions on reservation. However, the ball is in the Government’s court with little knowledge of what is going on over the matter.
“The file is with the State Government and any decision has to emanate from there. As of now we don’t know what is the present status (of the file),” said Deputy Secretary, Department of Personnel, Administrative Reforms & Rajbhasha, PK Tiwari.
The decision has thrown the fate of about 3,700 students in the dark abyss of uncertainty as no decision on either taking or cancelling the examination is likely in near future. Even as the career of hundreds of students who were dreaming of competing for 277 vacancies in the State’s bureaucracy is at stake the contentious issue of reservation and the allegations of tweaking the reservation policy are yet to be probed to clear the hurdle in conducting examinations. Notably, the result for the preliminary examination was declared on January 12, 2014 and applications for the Mains examination were invited shortly after the results were declared.
“We have no idea of what is going on. We expect that the decision comes but it is up to the department to push for it. We don’t even know whether the number of seats will remain the same or not,” maintained Controller of Examination, JPSC, Vivak Narayan Akhauri.
Sources in the commission had confided that they had urged the department to expeditiously resolve the outstanding issues in the way of the examination. According to the rules laid for JPSC, out of the total number of candidates selected, 26 per cent are to be from Scheduled Tribe, 10 per cent from Scheduled Caste, eight per cent from Backward Caste and six per cent from Backward Caste whereas the remaining 50 per cent are to be from general category.
