Uncertainty looms over flights at J’suguda airport

Published on:

Uncertainty prevails over the flight operations by Air Odisha at the Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) Airport, which was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here under the UDAN (Udega Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme.

The cancellation of three flights scheduled to and from the airport on Tuesday has raised a big question among passengers for the flight services.

Three days after operationalisation of Odisha’s second major airport, not a single flight landed at the airport on Tuesday despite the schedules. Three flights were scheduled to take off daily from Jharsuguda to Raipur, Ranchi and Bhubaneswar excluding Sundays.

On Monday, two flights had been cancelled; and the Air Odisha flight from Bhubaneswar had landed at Jharsuguda, from where it flew to Raipur at the scheduled time.

However, three flights were cancelled on Tuesday due to “repair works”, stated the VSS Airport Director PK Chouhan.

Meanwhile, ticket booking is yet to start for flights on the Jharsuguda route.

The airport was operational on Saturday last with a maiden flight for Raipur carrying 10 passengers, including four divyang children. The regular schedule for flights commenced from September 24.
