University Grant Commission UGC canceled the National Eligibility Test (NET) held at Doranda College center after the students went on rampage and tore apart question papers alleging mismanagement.
“The exam for the Doranda College center had been canceled. The reexamination dates for the affected 2600 students will be announced very soon,” said UGC-NET coordinator Ajeet Kumar Sahay.
Earlier on Sunday morning NET examinees — whose center for the examination was at Doranda College — tore apart question papers alleging mismanagement on the part of the exam center administration.
“The examination was to commence on 9.30 am. The school administration however was seen shifting table and benches from one room to other till 9.40am and beyond. This was ridiculous. And what was more irritating was the fact that some of students were sitting inside examination hall and were given question papers also. We were outraged. We entered into the classrooms and tore away the question papers,” said Brajesh Kumar, one of the 2600 examinees.
The college authorities though accepted that they had erred while making the sitting arrangement they alleged that the students had crossed the limits when they torn apart question papers.
“I accept our faults. But nothing can justify the students blocking traffic and disturbing examination at other examinations centers,” said a teacher at Doranda College.
The outraged students after blocking the nearby roads also went to Gossner College —another center for the exams —and tried to disturb the examinees and administration so that Gossner College center exams also got cancelled.
However with police administration intervention, the Gossner College Center conducted the examination peacefully, though the exam could commence not before 1.30pm.
According to the official records 13608 students had participated in the NET exam at centers across Ranchi. “The results for all the centers will be announced together,” said Sahay.
