Those killed were identified as Mohammed Tausif (16) and Mohammed Kadir (14), both school-going boys were residents of Rahmatnagar in adjoining Kapali area. The two teenagers were run over by a sand-laden truck, when the duo was to attend their tuition class going on a bike.

Soon after the incident vehicular communication between Pardih and Mango came to standstill for about five hours as local residents set up a blockade to protest the accident deaths.

Sources informed that neither of the victims had put on helmets, nor had driving license, but were driving in a high speed while coming to the Old Purulia Road from their house.

Soon after the incident about 150 agitated youths arrived at the scene and put up the blockade, demanding adequate compensation for the bereaved families,  The mishap victims’ bodies were also lying on the spot until the blockade was not lifted.

Although the policemen tried to remove the protestors  for getting the bodies lifted a section of agitated protestors resisted the cops.

The protestors not only refused to let the policemen, but also pelted stones at the police ambulance as well as the Rapid Action forces vehicles. The protestors continued to squat on the road while demanding `10 lakh rupees as compensation to each of the victim’s families and Government job.

Officer-in-charge, Azadnagar police station Anjani Kumar later said that the protestors left the scene of mishap at about 3 pm, and this happened only after they gave the protestors a verbal assurance that the administration will recommend for Government jobs to one member from each of the distraught families.

The driver of the sand-landen truck had sped up after the mishap and he had parked the vehicle in front of Azadnagar police station.

The agitated protestors had also tried to set the stationary truck (JH05X-7245) afire, but as the area is a densely-populated area, they had tried to push the truck onto the middle of the road so that they could torch it safely, but due to intervention of local people, they dropped the idea. The protestors had, however, damaged the truck.
