Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) Kumud Rani and Sahiyya Snehlata Sinha from Hazaribagh were felicitated on April 11 at New Delhi during the occasion of National Safe Motherhood Day for their remarkable services rendered under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in Jharkhand.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had begun such kind of appreciation for the NRHM workers since last year in ten Empowered Action Group (EAG) states where the health indicator death is low. In these states, the NRHM workers who perform better in implementating Family Planning programmes and are successful in carrying out in their block are felicitated at national level.

Both these awardees were selected by state government in various stages for the highly appreciable work in the field of Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), ANC, PNC and Immunization.

Kumud Rani who belongs to Sadar block of Hazaribagh has worked hard in ensuring 80 percent institutional deliveries in her block last year which was only twenty percent before putting her efforts. “Our aim was to increase the total fertility rate in our areas,” said both the awardees.

These ladies have established a name among their genre. Snehlata from Bishnugarh block said, “We would definitely encourage our colleagues to strive hard in carrying out the NRHM programmes at community and village level so that they too can win an award at the national level.”

State Coordinator Akay Minz informed Jharkhand’s achievement in obtaining such awards last year as well. This year the winners were felicitated by Dr Rakesh Kumar, RCH Joint Secretary of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
