Teargas shells fired, RAP constable, four activists injured
The state Capital, in the recent times, would not have seen a protest of the scale staged today by Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and AJSU party against the State government. The protest was unprecedented in many ways and despite being anti-government demonstration and similar in objective the uniqueness lay in the remarkable management by the two organisations that communicated their emotions yet avoided conflict in their march towards the VVIP zone of the capital.
While the AJSU supporters led by party supremo Sudesh Kumar Mahto had set out to gherao Raj Bhawan the ABVP wanted to display their anger to the State government for alleged anti-student policies in the leadership of National General Secretary Shreehari Borikar.
The AJSU accused that the government has failed in fulfilling basic needs of the people of the State and also criticized policies—mining, industrial— among several others for ruining the economy of the State. A five member delegation of AJSU met Governor Syed Ahmed and handed over a memorandum containing demands which included CBI inquiry into the murder of Tileshwar Sahu, implementation of domicile policy, constituting committee for identification of Jharkhand revolutionaries, devolution of powers to panchayat representatives, implementing Food Security Act and improving condition of electricity supply in the State.
“There is no law and order in the State. Fear, hunger and corruption is prevalent everywhere yet the State government is doing nothing. Capital is witnessing unabated crime. If government fails to control these things then the party will be compelled to stage stronger protest,” said AJSU chief Sudesh Mahto. On the other hand the ABVP supporters attempted to walk upto CM house to register their protest against alleged deterioration of educational institutions and life of students in hostels.
