Turf line creates chances for filling up rainfall deficit

Published on:

The turf line passing through the State has created a probability of filling up the rainfall deficit level in the month of July which was created in the previous month. June had merely recorded 104.7 mm rainfall this year.

As per the MET Ranchi Observatory Centre officials, if the same condition prevails for another three days, the State that records -17 percent deficit in rainfall at the moment will be able to cover up 3-4 per cent deficit level.

“Due to the strong system developed over Bay of Bengal that was created last week, the situation at present is quite favorable. Besides this due to the delay in the monsoon arrival, this year the deficiency level has increased. However, in 2016 as well the situation was somewhat similar but by the end of July, almost all the districts were able to cover up the deficit level,” said, Senior Scientist, MET Ranchi Centre, RS Sharma.

The rainfall statistics released by the Centre on Sunday though still suggest that districts like Garhwa, Chatra, Sahibganj, West Singhbhum even now  registers low rainfall creating deficiency level so much so that cannot be easily leveled up in the days to come.

Jharkhand till date has received 371.3 mm rainfall since the onset of monsoon season. As per the normal conditions and experts, by now, the State should have crossed 448.9 mm rainfall.

However, considering the overall condition, Sharma mentioned that this is a positive sign for all the farmers who have been expecting heavy downpour since quite some time. Notably, earlier with the slow advancement of South-West (SW) monsoon, the anticipation of farmers expecting heavy downpour for harvesting has been diluted considering the frail condition of rainstorm that prevailed in the month of June.

Ironically, the State, in the month of June normally receives 228 mm rainfall since the onset of the rainy season. Besides that Agro-MET expert had claimed that due to 50 per cent deficit in the rainfall that is basically covered up with the onset of torrential rain had already caused much delay in different farming activities causing harm to cultivator as due to Western Disturbances (WD), the advancement of SW monsoon was severely influenced in the beginning.
