Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) Vice-Chancellor Dr George John has urged the veterinary graduates to become job providers rather than job seekers through development of entrepreneurship.

There is immense scope in the fields of biotechnology industry, animal vaccine production and animal diagnostics in the State which can be taken up by veterinary graduates after a brief course in entrepreneurship development. Such ventures may also lead to technology development required for the growth of animal husbandry sectors, he said.

Addressing the ‘Farewell-cum-oath taking ceremony’ of veterinary graduates of 2009 batch at Ranchi Veterinary College (RVC) Auditorium on Saturday, the Vice-Chancellor said the culmination or award of degree is not the end of pursuit for knowledge rather it is beginning. He urged the outgoing students to act as ambassadors of the College and University and added that he would like to tap the strength of alumni and former teachers of the College for institution’s development by establishing strong network with them. With the help and efforts of all sections of the University, the past glory of RVC will be brought back and the problems plaguing the institution would be solved in a phase-wise manner, the VC said. Dr John, who has over two decades experience in animal biotechnology with the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, said besides challenges there are immense opportunities also in animal biotechnology which can provide rewarding career to veterinarians. Biotech industries have come up mainly in big cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai etc and he would like to see setting up of such units in Jharkhand too with the joint effort of investors, academia and Government.
