City’s prestigious college, St Xavier’s, has set a unique requirement for admission which is causing trouble to students and their parents for the fault of none of them. Inundated with thousands of admission forms and the pressure to complete admission in time, the college administration is taking ‘provisional admission’ in undergraduate courses.
In the absence of original copy of result, the college administration has allowed admission on provisional basis for which a student needs to furnish documents which include downloaded copy of the result alongwith an application to allow admission. The application needs to be signed by Vice-principal of the college to seek admission but the sudden development in the admission process is too tedious especially for those who have come from other cities of Jharkhand.
“We were not aware of this arrangement. There has to be some prior information about the change in the process. My ward is in the queue since morning with no end of wait in sight,” said AK Mishra, who came from Bokaro Thermal along with his son.
The bizarre situation at the campus of the college is a result of non-availability of printed copy of results of class-12 of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) which made students worried about admission in the prestigious college. Printed result of most of the students did not arrive at schools even as the St Xavier’s administration moved ahead with admission process. Students of National Institute of Open Schooling are also facing the same problem and have to take the same route taken by students of CBSE board.
“The arrangement is made for the convenience of students especially for those who appeared in CBSE and NIOS. It was not announced prior because we were expecting the results to come on time. If anyone is to blame for this then it must be the two boards not us,” said PRO Kamal Bose.
The college administration sought to downplay the problem in the admission process and instead hit back at vested interest for trying to sneak in the college through dubious means. “There is a reason to stick to stringent rules and regulations,” added Bose.
In the absence of clear guidelines related to missing admission dates given to candidates of all the streams admission seekers are wondering what to do and who to approach to proceed on admission. The college is taking admission of candidates shortlisted in the first list which will come to an end on July 2. Notably, undergraduate courses at St Xavier’s comprise more than 4000 seats in different streams of Science, Arts and Commerce.
“Fed up with prolonged wait I requested a college staff to accept my application. They accepted it on the promise that I will submit application for provisional admission approved by the Vice-principal,” said Juhi Kumari, who came from Hazaribagh to get admission in Undergraduate courses.
Meanwhile, CBSE’s State Coordinator Manohar lal claimed that the board has dispatched physical copies of all documents—marks sheet, pass certificate and migration—to all schools in Jharkhand. The coordinator however acknowledged delay in dispatch of results to schools.
“Yes there has been delay but yesterday I dispatched all documents to all schools in Jharkhand. They would have received by today,” claimed the State Coordinator.
