Tributes paid to slain Navy sailor in Palamu

Published on:

Army and Navy jawans and officials today gave a heart touching adieu to the slain navy sailor Suraj Kumar Dubey on the bank of the river Koyal today.

There were more than a thousand mourners crying and shouting Suraj will remain immortal.

Officer in charge of the Chainpur police station Uday Kumar Gupta said the cremation was delayed by four hours just for the arrival of the contingent of the Army and Navy personnel here from Ranchi. Gupta said the defence personnel reached here by road from Ranchi. Gupta said the body had arrived late at night on Sunday itself. State Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Mithilesh Thakur was present during the cremation.

MP V D Ram said the ongoing Lok Sabha session forced him to remain in Delhi as otherwise he too would have come today.

SP Palamu Sanjeev Kumar said the Chainpur police did a legitimate action by entering the complaint of the father Mithilesh Kumar Dubey of the deceased Suraj in the station diary as the father wrote about his navy sailor son gone missing in Tamil Nadu.

The SP said the local Chainpur police then soon got on the job. The mukhiya of the Purabdeeha panchayat Kulbul Dubey and hundreds of the mourners made a demand for the badge of martyr for the slain navy sailor Suraj.

The mukhiya said the brave son of Palamu deserves the conferment of martyrdom. He said, “We wanted a CBI probe and now we want honour of martyrdom on the slain navy sailor.”
