Following the inordinate delay in presenting report of high-level probe committee formed by Chief Minister Raghubar Das, family members of diseased officer in charge of Top chanchi police station Umesh Kachhap apprehend that the facts behind his death may get covered up by the police. Feeling deceived by the State Government, tribal organisations along with Kachhap’s family members is planning to come out on the streets to bring justice for him.
“As there seems to be no headway in this regard we along with all the four tribal organisations are now planning for intensive campaign against the State Government. An effigy of CM Raghubar Das was burnt at Firayalal on Sunday. There is a general feeling among all the family members that they have been fooled by the State Government in this regard,” said Kachhap’s nephew Bipin.
Bipin believed that the Government did not fulfill any of its promises made in this regard. “Still we don’t know what is happening in the case. Despite a date of June 26 was given by the Government, we have not been informed about the report of the high level committee,” said Bipin Kacchap.
In spite of a promise made by Chief Minister that the investigation report submitted by high level committee will be made public very soon, the family members have still been kept in dark about the death, alleged Bipin.
Annoyed with the attitude, tribal organisations have decided to come out on the streets to get justice for Kachhap’s family. President of Aadivasi Vikas Parishad Dr Birsa Oraon also alleged that no action has been taken against the complaint lodged by them in Topchanchi Police Station as it believed it to be a case of suicide.
“We have lost all hopes from the Government hence, a decision has been taken by all the four major tribal organisations in the state to intensify our protest against the Government so that we can bring justice for the Kachhap’s family,” said Oraon. This Government has been trying to finish the identity of capable officers from the State,” said Oraon.
Umesh Kachhap was found hanging from the ceiling of his Government quarter on June 18 under suspicious circumstances. Family member however, claiming that Kachhap could not commit suicide and alleging a conspiracy against him, demanded CBI inquiry into the case. According to wife Chandramani Kachhap, her husband was under pressure for the last 3-4 days since the truck driver was shot at Rajganj under Hariharpur Police Station in Dhanbad.
Following the incident, all three suspected police officials –Baghmara DSP Mazahrul Hoda, Circle Inspector DK Jha and Officer in Charge of Hariharpur Police Station Santosh Kumar Rajak, were called back to Ranchi Police lines and Dhanbad SSP Surendra Nath Jha was asked to keep out of the inquiry so that it does not get influenced by him, he said.
