Under the banner of Adivasi Chatra Ekta (ACE) the tribal activists on Wednesday locked the main gate of the Tata Football Academy near Contractor’s Area for over three hours on Wednesday, demanding induction of home talent into the training cradle.
The protesters who were staging a dharna near the TFA premises for the past two days locked the gate after none of the officials from TFA gave time to hear their grievances. The gate was opened only after the TFA management assured that it would look into the demands of the ACE in a positive way.” We have been demanding the TFA to hone skills of Jharkhand boys. But nothing has been done so far. Cadets from different States are being selected while the locals are being ignored. We decided to lock the gate as no one from the TFA came to meet us,” said Jasai Mardi, chief patron of the ACE. The protesters raised slogans against TFA and disrupted the traffic movement at the cradle. The agitators agreed to open the gates after TFA called a meeting with them at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in the afternoon. Farzan Heerjee, Chief of Sports and Guest relations, Tata Steel and other senior functionaries were present at the meeting with the ACE members. “We opened the gate after the TFA officials assured us to look into our demand on a positive note. We will also be allowed to hand over memorandum to Tata Steel MD in favour of the demands”, said an activist. TFA supplements efforts to improve the standard of Indian football by developing youngsters in the age group of fourteen years, and injecting fresh talent into the nation’s premier spectator sport.
TFA, conceived in 1983 and inaugurated in 1987, is but one intrinsic component of the Tata Ideal manifested in reality. TFA in it’s first decade of existence, amply proved that systematic training, at the right age in a proper ambience, pays rich dividends. The juniors of TFA achieved a string of impressive victories against reputed national and international teams in this short time.
