Trauma Centre at RIMS to open soon

The construction of a 100-bed Trauma Centre at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is complete and the RIMS administration has written to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) seeking a date for its grand inauguration, RIMS officials said on Wednesday.

“We have written to the CMO seeking a date for the inauguration. The Trauma Centre is ready, we are only waiting for the Chief Minister’s nod,” said RIMS Director Dr. Dinesh Kumar Singh. The final date for inauguration of the Trauma Centre will be decided at a ministerial level; however, RIMS administration is hoping for an inauguration by July 15. Chief Minister Raghubar Das is likely to inaugurate the centre in presence of Health Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi and top health officials of Jharkhand.

The 100-bed Trauma Centre will have 50 beds for trauma patients and 50 beds for emergency cases. The four storey infrastructure will also have an operation theater, doctors said. The infrastructure, doctors said, will be of great help to patients, especially the ones who suffer from injuries caused in major accidents.

Trauma centers provide specialized medical services and resources to patients suffering from traumatic injuries caused by falls, major collisions or even gun shots. A well-equipped trauma centre can considerably reduce the chances of death or disability caused by traumatic injuries, doctors say.

RIMS, the largest State-run hospital in Jharkhand, treats patients from all the 24 districts. Security personnel sustaining injuries during clashes with outlawed rebel outfits also undergo treatment here. Given the fact that 18 out of 24 districts in the state are Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected, encounters between security forces and LWE groups are common in Jharkhand. Once the Trauma Centre at RIMS starts functioning, Jawans sustaining injuries during encounters will get better treatment at the hospital.

The State has been committed in upgrading the quality of health facilities at RIMS lately. Chief Minister Raghubar Das recently reviewed the facilities at RIMS during an inspection and assured the hospital administration that a new, better-equipped Outdoor Patient Department (OPD) will be opened at the hospital. He also assured centralized air conditioning in RIMS. Besides, Das has directed the Director General of Police (DGP), K N Choubey to deploy policemen at the hospital in a bid to strengthen the security at RIMS.

Meanwhile, the construction of a new hostel and an administrative building is almost complete at RIMS. The two infrastructures too are likely to be inaugurated soon, RIMS officials said. On an average, RIMS treats at least 1500 patients every day and a majority of these patients come from rural areas of Jharkhand.
