Department of Transport on Thursday revised passenger fare for buses rendering their services in Jharkhand. The revision of tariff has been made in the wake of continuously declining fuel prices in last couple of months and after a meeting between officials of the transport department and representative of bus association, passengers association.
“Fuel prices have come down nearly by one-third hence, we revised the bus fare for passengers. The bus fare was not revised since 2008 and what has been fixed will remain in effect. The changes have been after all parties were allowed to present their views,” said Transport Commissioner, KK Soan. The department has decreased fares by 53 paise for every kilometer for normal buses, 58 paise for express bus service, 67 paise per kilometer for semi deluxe service, 79 paise per kilometer for deluxe buses, 85 paise per kilometer for deluxe AC buses besides Rs1.06 per kilometer for Volvo and luxurious buses.
Representatives bus association were divided on the issue of fare revision as few owners wanted the fares to be equal to that fixed by Bihar Government whereas few opposed the revision based on fluctuations on fuel prices and wanted the department to consider maintenance of buses before changing passenger fares.
