Taking note of the increase in the incidence of malicious activities and financial frauds of digital nature in the State, the Jharkhand police is planning to fortify its preparations to fight the crime in the cyber world.
Training sessions for general and specialised police personnel are in the offing to make them capable in the ways of investigating and cracking cyber crime cases, with specific focus on pockets where the frequency of cyber crimes is the highest in Jharkhand, informed Sampat Meena, Inspector General (Organised Crime), Crime Investigation Department.
“Certain district have been identified as sensitive in terms of cyber crimes, namely Giridih, Jamtara, Deoghar and certain parts of Sahebganj. We have been receiving substantial bulk of cases of these districts along with intercepting massive volumes of calls and e-mails going to other parts of the State and nation. Considering this, special briefing sessions will be convened for Officers in-Charge of posted in these areas,” said Meena.
According to data released by CID, cyber criminals from Giridih, Deoghar and Jamtara were collectively responsible for 52 cases out of 221 recorded from all over the State in 2015.
Presently, strategies for the briefing sessions are being chalked out, she informed. These sessions will focus on how to register, probe and solve the cases of cyber crimes, added Meena.
The cyber cells proposed for every district of Jharkhand will also be brought up to speed in near future. Some have already started functioning, whereas rest will be good to go shortly, informed police sources. A training session for the officials manning these cyber cells has been scheduled in the coming week.
“50 Investigating Officers looking after cyber crime cases all across Jharkhand will come together next week to receive lessons on handling these cases. The cyber crime police station in Ranchi will provide mentoring support to these officials,” Meena said.
The objective of this training programme, to be organised by CID from May 23 to May 26, is to make the cyber sleuths of the State more proficient in their work. Officials investigating cyber crimes are often not adept with the technical aspects of the job; this training is meant to address this issue, said Meena.
The substantial financial assets acquired by the criminals cannot be touched as they are stashed away in separate online locations, making their recovery difficult. New plicies will allow us to go after this money and return it to its rightful owners, stated the IG.
