Passengers are facing problems at Ranchi Railway station in commuting from fourth and fifth platform to first platform as there is only one foot over bridge and that too situated at one of the extreme ends.
Passengers of fourth and fifth platform have to carry their heavy luggage towards the back side of the platform and fetch it to the foot over bridge. In the process they have to walk a lot first to reach the over bridge and then to the main entrance and exit gate of Railway station which creates chaos and spells trouble for the co-passengers.
A passenger who disembarked from Patna-Hatia train said, “It is very difficult to carry heavy luggage from one end of the platform to the other particularly during rush hours. The officials must do something for the convenience of the passengers.”
Though there is another foot over bridge at the railway station, at the entrance gate of the ticket counter (besides the one at the extreme end of the platform). But this foot over bridge opens only in to platform number two and three and does not cover the platform number four and five.
Though escalator set up work is also in process but it is also not good news for the passengers as the escalator is also at the extreme end and they will have to travel the same distance for getting to the escalator.
Division Railway Manager, Gajanan Mallya said, “Tenders have been passed and work is being awarded but due to some technical problem the extension work of main foot over bridge is not yet started it is expected to start within two three months.” On escalator set up at the extreme end of the station he said, “For escalator set up we need proper space. But since our platforms are narrow in the middle we have to place the escalator at extreme.” He also added that so far as only one escalator is being set up and they would think of its extensions.
