In the wake of rising cases of road accidents, frequent registration of drunk driving incidents, over speeding, jumping traffic signals that often create nuisance, Ranchi Traffic police taking stern action against the offenders have decided to immediately seize the driving licences of all those breaching the traffic rules.
Making it more effective to adhere to the rules, Ranchi Traffic Police on Monday issued a communiqué to all the Zonal Officers (Traffic), including Officers-In-Charge (Traffic) to immediately confiscate the driving licence of the drivers found recklessly plying vehicles along the busiest routes. Though the traffic police had started the drive at a few places but formally it will be initiated from August 16 covering all the 42 traffic check posts.
The driving licence of the drivers will be seized for a period of three months, caught infringing the five major traffic regulations that primarily include drunk drive issue, overloading, over speeding, use of mobile phones while driving and for violating the traffic signals.
Notably, the driving licence of all the offenders seized by the traffic constables on duty will be submitted at the District Transportation Office (DTO). DSP (Traffic-1), Dilip Xalxo after issuing the communiqué said that immediately after imposing penalty upon the offenders, the original driving licences will be taken away by the traffic police while a duplicate copy of a licence will be issued to the offender. The details will be recorded on the spot in the seizure list for further reference.
Notably, a few days back, on experimental basis, the Traffic Police personnel had initiated the checking drive procedure taking into account these five major traffic rules at some places. As per the Traffic Police records, on different grounds, so far, 7 driving licences from different traffic checking posts have been confiscated.
Even so, often the checking drive initiated by the Traffic Police personnel frequently in much fanfare are discontinued for some or the other reasons giving the offenders another chance to again infringe the set guidelines.
“In an attempt to ensure effective implementation of the plan, this time, no mercy will be shown towards the drivers who are habituated of violating the traffic regulations. If in the record, the drivers are found infringing the five major regulations as mentioned in the communiqué for three times, his/her driving licence will be suspended forever,” said the Traffic DSP.
