The decision of the Ranchi Traffic Police to ease down traffic snarl by prohibiting the operation of all illegal auto-rickshaws failed on the first day itself despite issuing stringent orders to the personnel to not allow any auto ply on the roads without permit.
Notably, from September 1, the officials were instructed to seize all illegal auto-rickshaws that do not have QR code embedded on them. According to the new guidelines, only those auto-rickshaws will be allowed to ply in the city that are registered and have QR codes embedded on them.
“The orders have been issued to the Traffic DSPs including other subordinates few days back. Due to two major festivals Bakrid and Karma Puja, the officials were not able to stop the defaulters. From September 4, the checking drive will be conducted regularly under the supervision of the senior officials as per the directions,” said Traffic SP, Sanjay Ranjan Singh.
For ensuring better execution of newly drafted traffic rule to streamline the traffic setup, both DSPs (Traffic) and Traffic Inspectors have been made responsible, failing to which stern action will be taken against them. Interestingly, several auto-rickshaw drivers in the Capital City said that they are not aware about the implementation of QR code system.
“I am not aware about the new QR code system implementation plan. Every day, we hear something new. I am least bothered about all these directives. Phele auto ka rang kala se hara karwaya gaya, phir permits ka chakkar, yeh sab aise hi chalega (First they asked the auto drivers to change the colour of the auto-rickshaws from black to green then again they started harassing drivers.
